Huge blow for Cardiff as Colwill is facing months out with an ankle injury

Cardiff and Wales midfielder Rubin Colwill

Colwill started the game against the Cobblers but was withdrawn early in the first half after suffering an injury during a challenge.

He later left the ground in a protective boot and on crutches, leaving Bluebirds supporters fearing the worst.

The Wales international has been one of Cardiff's best players this season and their most potent attacking threat, leading the way for goal involvements this season with nine goals and assists.

However, Brian Barry-Murphy will now have to find a new way to inject that creativity and replace the threat the mercurial academy product provides, with the head coach saying Colwill will miss 10 to 12 weeks.

Speaking ahead of Cardiff’s home fixture against Mansfield tomorrow, Barry-Murphy confirmed: “Rubin’s timescale will be 10 to 12 weeks.

“There's a discussion over the next 24 hours about whether he will have surgery or not.

“So by the time we come to the post-match press conference on Saturday, I'll be able to say that.
