Hospital kitchen shut due to cockroach infestation

The main kitchen at Singleton Hospital in Swansea has been shut after the insects were found in the “undercroft” area at the end of June.

The kitchen’s closure means food is being produced offsite to be brought into the hospital.

Swansea Bay University Health Board said there had been no disruption to patients’ meals, despite the kitchen being closed.

The health board added that it was “working hard to eradicate the infestation”, but no timescale had been given as to when the kitchen was expected to reopen.

A spokesperson for Swansea Bay University Health Board said “swift action” was taken following the discovery of the cockroach infestation in the hospital’s undercroft area, which had affected some parts of the kitchen, at the end of June.
