PEOPLE running private schools in Wales warned that imposing VAT on their fees would lead to closures, higher fees and pupils leaving and so it has proved.

When the UK Government announced independent school fees would be subject to 20% VAT from this January, and the Welsh Government followed suit, it caused outcry from those in charge of what many judge to be elite establishments.

‘They claimed that far from being Etons and Harrows they are small local educational establishments offering an alternative service which local families work hard and make sacrifices to afford.
