A BURGLAR opened up a bank account in a dead woman's name and was able to gain access to her civil service pension after he came into possession of her financial details.

He went on to break into the home of another woman, taking a number of her belongings including her bank card.

Lee Print, 43, managed to defraud his deceased victim out of £7,000 after carrying out a number of financial actions in her name despite the fact she had been dead for months.

He even spoke to a member of banking staff while pretending to be the victim.

A sentencing hearing at Cardiff Crown Court heard the offences came to light after the defendant burgled a house in Rumney, Cardiff, between September and August 2022.

The victim returned home from holiday to find a bathroom window had been left open and a number of items had been moved out of place.

She discovered a 40in television was missing as well as two address books containing financial information.
