Bowen is on course to join racing's exclusive 200 club

SEAN Bowen moved onto 140 winners for the season at Kempton on Monday and remains well on course to join an elite club who have ridden 200 - and things could get even better for him in this weekend's big race.

Bowen was champion jockey for the first time last term and, barring disaster, will take the title again, but he has some fancy targets in mind too.

‘They include riding 300 winners, which would surpass the 289 reached by legendary 20-time champion jockey Sir Anthony McCoy in 2001-02.

Whether he can achieve that remains to be seen, but the serial winner should reach 200 and only McCoy, Brian Hughes, Richard Johnson and Peter Scudamore have done that in a season.

Bowen lit up Ffos Las last week when he recorded a treble, which included an easy win on ‘There Runs Mary, who will probably be one of the shortest-priced winners he partners as she returned at 1-33 in the 2m maiden hurdle.

Another followed at Windsor on Sunday before the 28-year-old registered his 140th on Sonic Pioneer in Kempton’s juvenile hurdle.
