Baby died after complications from routine op, inquest told

A BABY died in hospital after being born very prematurely following complications from an operation, an inquest has heard.

Nanw Thomas died at University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff on the day she was born after her mother Chloe Thomas had complications from a cervical polypectomy, Pontypridd Coroners' Court heard.

Ms Thomas, from Barry, was 22 weeks' pregnant when she had the procedure on July 25 last year which is designed to remove a cervical polyp which is a type of growth.

The procedure, which is usually deemed routine, went wrong and led to the premature rupture of Ms Thomas' membranes days later on July 29 - an infection risk which she said she had not been made aware of.

An emergency decision was taken to induce Ms Thomas, but Nanw died on July 31 after being alive for one hour.

Ms Thomas said during her pregnancy she was routinely reassured her baby was developing well.
