Apology after overnight noise at new hospital site

THE construction team working at a new cancer centre has issued an apology to members of the community for disruption they have caused.

It was originally hoped that the new Velindre Cancer Centre in Whitchurch, north Cardiff, would welcome its first patient in 2024.

However, after a series of delays, its opening is scheduled for 2027. These delays seem to be taking a toll on members of the local community, who say they are being "taken for granted".

The construction team have been working overnight to avoid high temperatures during the day, which has resulted in local residents being awoken by loud horns and construction-related noises.

Resident Keisha Morgan-Allwood said: "It was disgusting with the horns going off until the early hours in the morning. People like myself have work the next day. I only had a few hours' sleep and a now have a banging earache."

Wendy Slater added: "It really doesn't take into consideration anyone who is ill, vulnerable, has PTSD or is autistic."
