YEOVIL-BASED dental hygienist Rafina O’Brien has been named as a finalist for the prestigious Ms Great Britain competition.

Ms Great Britain finalist who wants everyone to share her healthy smile

Rafina is using this platform to champion oral health, raise money for vital causes, and shine a spotlight on the Somerset community.

She said that her latest campaign focusses on women’s oral health, a topic often overlooked.

Hormonal changes during puberty, pregnancy, and menopause can all impact gum and bone health, and have even been linked to serious outcomes like low birth weight and premature birth. Through education, community talks, and online awareness, Rafina hopes to empower women to take control of their dental health - especially those who are facing difficulties in other areas of their lives.

"I believe oral health is about much more than just teeth," she said. "It's about confidence, wellbeing, dignity, and overall health - and everyone deserves access to that, no matter their background."

Through her 'When She Smiles' campaign, she is highlighting how poor oral health can affect confidence, self-esteem, and even access to opportunities - and why it’s critical that women receive the support and education they need to prioritise their dental care.
