Duo facing mountainous task
Western Gazette
|June 19, 2025
This month marks exactly one year since Sarah Edmondson and Alexa Blackmore, two dedicated garden centre professionals, committed to their most ambitious challenge yet - climbing Mount Kilimanjaro on 10th June, 2026, to raise vital funds for Greenfingers, the charity that creates magical gardens at children’s hospices across the UK.
-
Sarah, Garden Centre Manager at Castle Gardens in Sherborne, and Alexa, Gift Buyer and Assistant Manager at Brimsmore Gardens in Yeovil are preparing to tackle the 19,341-foot summit of Africa's highest mountain, despite neither having mountaineering experience. Their mission is to raise £10,000 for Greenfingers, which supports life-limited children and their families through the creation of therapeutic gardens at hospices nationwide.
Sarah brings her adventurous spirit from previous expeditions including a 5,000-mile charity car rally from the UK to The Gambia, biodiversity surveys in Madagascar's forests, and extensive travels across the USA and beyond. However, she admits this will be her biggest physical challenge to date.
