'Progress' against serious failings

BRISTOL City Council claims it has made "great progress" in addressing serious failings in its duty as a landlord despite confirming it does not expect all homes to be compliant with safety regulations until next October.
-
The authority has passed the first milestone in a multiyear recovery plan launched after the Government's Regulator of Social Housing issued a damning verdict on the state of its housing stock. In July 2024, the regulator stated: "Our judgement is that there are serious failings in how Bristol CC is delivering the outcomes of the consumer standards and significant improvement is needed, specifically in relation to outcomes in our Safety and Quality Standard."
Seventeen months on from that judgment, the council says it is "getting its own house in order" by improving data and governance.
