Upcountry councils 'absolutely not' buying homes

PERSISTENT rumours that councils in the north of England and the Midlands are buying homes in Cornwall to house people from their areas have been firmly dismissed by the councillor responsible for housing in the county.

The issue has been debated at County Hall/Lys Kernow in Truro before but was raised again last Tuesday at the final full council meeting before the May 1 elections.
Councillor Adam Paynter (Independent, Launceston North and North Petherwin) asked Conservative housing portfolio-holder Olly Monk: "There seem to be rumours speculating yet again about councils upcountry buying up social or affordable homes in Cornwall.
