Sculpture stolen from tent and burned

A PIECE of environmental artwork which took a Cornish artist many years to create was stolen from a food festival on Friday and burned in what its creators condemned as a senseless act of vandalism.

The life-sized female figure, Mor (Sea), made from abandoned fishing gear, was on display in a marquee at the Falmouth Food Festival on May 23, when it was dragged out of the tent and towards the town centre before being set on fire.
The statue’s nose was burned off and its plastic ‘hair’ torn out and set alight, before the artwork was recovered.
Bonnie Steward, who created Mor, shared the news of the vandalism on her Instagram account bish-art, writing: “I cannot comprehend why anyone would seek to destroy her.
