Estate sets record for number of species flowering in winter
West Briton (Truro and Mid Cornwall)
|January 08, 2026
A BOTANICAL garden near Truro has recorded its highest winter flower count to date.
-
The Tregothnan estate at Tresillian, which includes a tea plantation and has been owned by the Boscawen family since 1334, counts the species blooming in its private garden annually around the turn of the year.
The aim is to find out how global warming is affecting the gardens, though it is also a friendly competition with other gardens around the UK.
This year's count is the highest yet, with 199 winter-blooming species in flower.
