'Green lane' plans 'to enhance safety'
Wells Journal
|February 19, 2026
BURCOTT Lane in Wells could be turned into a 'green lane' under plans by Somerset Council in a bid to make it safer for pedestrians and cyclists.
-
It is one of five such roads across Somerset which are the subject of a consultation by Somerset Council, with a view to introducing trial measures in place to remove motor vehicles from a given section.
The proposal would introduce a modal filter - using bollards, planters or blocks - to restrict car access while keeping the route open to walkers, cyclists, wheelchair users and horse riders.
