The Traitors contestant Hugo Lodge, who was already a huge fan of the show, tells Indigo Jones what it was like being on the hit TV series

WHEN our interview started, the recently-banished Hugo Lodge had his Primark Traitors cloak at the ready.

The 51-year-old barrister departed the Scottish castle in a dramatic round-table banishment at the hands of author and former barrister Harriet Tyce.

The self-confessed Traitors super-fan was so excited to take part in the series having watched every English-language version of the competition series. When his time came to appear on the BBC deception series he was picked by Claudia Winkleman to be a Traitor.

But his time on the show was short and Cardiff-born musical theatre fan was sent home in the third episode.

Hugo has now shared details about his time playing the game, where he went wrong, and also addressed the rumours swirling around social media of him knowing Harriet before they entered the castle.

When travelling to Scotland to embark on his Traitors adventure, much like the rest of the cast, Hugo had to come up with a plausible lie that “might take you out of action for one to three weeks”.

The barrister told his nearest and dearest that he was doing a “top-secret project”.

He said: “I've done court martials in the past. So I didn't actually say that but I was kind of leaving the breadcrumbs.”

Hugo was looking forward to his first days in the castle but said it was “a very strange feeling when you walk into it for the first time because obviously you're very accustomed to those areas that we can see ~ the room with obviously all the big portraits on and the billiard room and all the rest of it”

He added: “So it’s quite surreal because you almost feel like you've sort of dived into the TV. It was a great experience.”

As a fan of the show he knew immediately he would like to be a devious Traitor.

He said: “I can’t imagine why anyone would want to be anything other than a Traitor. I mean if you're going to play the game you want the full experience.
