Long-standing India ties evolving in emerging sectors
Vietnam Investment Review
|May 25, 2026
The elevation of India—Vietnam relations to an enhanced comprehensive strategic partnership (CSP) represents a major turning point in bilateral engagement and signals the beginning of a more ambitious phase of deeper strategic, economic, technological, and people-to-people cooperation.
Building on the CSP established in 2016, the new framework reflects the deepening strategic alignment between the two countries at a time when the regional and global landscape is becoming increasingly complex.
A defining feature of the enhanced partnership is its broadened scope. While defence, security, and trade have long been pillars of India—Vietnam cooperation, the upgraded partnership expands collaboration into emerging and future-oriented sectors such as AI, semiconductors, digital public infrastructure, renewable energy, critical minerals, and advanced manufacturing.
The recent convening of the First India-Vietnam Cyber Policy Dialogue, which saw discussion on cyber policies, joint capacity building activities and cooperation at multilateral forums on information and communication technology issues, is one such example.
Collaboration is also expected to broaden in areas such as information sharing, cybersecurity, counterterrorism and combating high-tech crime, transnational crime, money laundering and online scams. This shift underscores the shared intention of both countries to strengthen economic resilience, diversify strategic partnerships, and contribute to an international order grounded in peace, stability, cooperation and prosperity.
