Volunteers needed to aid people who seek advice

MORE volunteers are needed to help the thousands of struggling residents who turn to Citizens Advice Torridge, North, Mid and West Devon in their hour of need.

The charity says demand for its services is rising, with the cost of living continuing to bite among other factors.

During the last year, the service helped 15,392 people resolve 54,058 issues ranging from debt and housing to benefits and energy concerns.

The growing case load has only been manageable due to a team of 70 trained volunteers who work closely with staff to support people in need.

The charity is using Volunteers' Week, which runs from Sunday, June 2, to Saturday, June 8, to thank its volunteers and highlight the vital role they play in the community.

The volunteers come from a broad range of backgrounds - from students and carers to those re-entering work or enjoying retirement - each bringing unique skills and perspectives.
