The Brit cocaine trafficker, 67, thinks she can dodge the firing squad thanks to a change in the law in Indonesia.

She has been held in Bali’s hellhole Kerobokan jail since 2013 for bringing £1.6million of cocaine into the country.

But Indonesia has recently freed other smugglers serving similar sentences as it relaxes its notoriously tough anti-drug laws.

An insider said: "Lindsay has slumped into depression because she has not been released yet.

"She's given away all her clothes and things she had because she was expecting to be released already.

"But it's understood she will be released in a few months, along with other Westerners.

"The new Indonesian president has, among his many changes, said he wants to reduce the numbers in jail.

image"Local people are being released, then overseas people are to be looked at. Already the Australian drug group who were known as the Bali Nine are back in Australia.

"The jails are so full. Rooms that normally hold 12 are now holding 16. So a new program is needed."

Indonesia is one of several Far East countries that executes drug traffickers. The so-called Bali Nine were a group of Aussies - most under 21 - caught trying to smuggle heroin out of Bali in 2005. Two ringleaders were shot and the rest got life or 20 years in jail.

But last December the five remaining in prison were freed.

The same month, another drug smuggler due to face a hail of bullets - Filipina Mary Jane Veloso, 40 - walked free after nearly 15 years inside.
