'People risk their lives for a reason'

TODDLER Clara is a bundle of energy, skipping around the migrant camp, teddy in hand. "How are you?" she asks in broken English with a smile.

She poses for the camera, pulls faces and doodles on my notepad while sitting on the dusty ground of this sprawling site near Loon-Plage, northern France.

This is normal life for Clara, two, who was born in a camp on the border of Greece and Bulgaria. She has no idea of the risks her mum has taken to try to find a safe home for them both.

Juliana, 25, was heavily pregnant when she fled Uganda. She says her dad, a former government spy, is an enemy of the state and many of her relatives have been killed.
