There is plenty to be hopeful of with Labour in power

A lot of my time is spent travelling around the country meeting GMB members in their workplaces. It's clear to me that people everywhere are having a tough time.

They're fed up with the cost of living. Dismayed at the damage done to communities by years of neglect. There's a real feeling of uncertainty about the future.

The Tories have so much to answer for. Austerity has inflicted deep wounds on our economy and public institutions. And their failure to protect essential national infrastructure has left our country vulnerable in a world that is more dangerous by the minute.

Look at what happened when Putin invaded Ukraine. Energy costs spiked because Europe had relied on Russian gas for too long.

We could have been better protected, but the last government closed Britain's gas storage facilities. A reckless act.
