HENDO HAILS LATE FATHER

- SIMON MULLOCK

CRYSTAL PALACE'S FA Cup hero Dean Henderson dedicated his Wembley glory to his late father after producing a brilliant display to thwart Manchester City and see his Eagles lift their first ever trophy.

Henderson's dad, Dougie, passed away at the age of 57 in the summer.

But the England international keeper felt his old man's presence as he denied City with a string of brilliant saves.

They included an outstanding first-half stop to keep out Omar Marmoush's penalty as Oliver Glasner's men claimed the FA Cup thanks to Eberechi Eze's 16th-minute strike.

Henderson had earlier been lucky to escape a red card after handling outside his box to halt Erling Haaland.

Henderson said: "I lost my dad at the start of the season, but he was with me today. He was with me every kick of the game. I dedicate that win to him.

"It's incredible. We had a feeling it would be our day today. The manager had a game-plan and we executed it. We deserve this so much.
