WHEN long-shot Nick Rockett had the National in its pocket, tears of joy flowed.
Its owner, trainer and the bookies cheered on the 33-1 outsider as it beat favourite and last year's winner I Am Maximus. Horse training legend Willie Mullins broke down seeing his amateur jockey son Patrick, 35, riding the winner. Owner Stewart Andrew hoisted Patrick on to his shoulders and walked to Aintree's winner's enclosure to pick up a £500,000 cheque.
The amazing win gave Stewart solace. He bought the horse with wife Sadie, who died from cancer in December 2022 just days after its debut run.
