Star mare also claims 2024-25 Champion Middle Distance galloper title in Australia
-

BRISBANE - Via Sistina has capped off a remarkable 2024-25 season by winning the Australian Champion Racehorse of the Year title.
Trained by 15-time Sydney champion trainer Chris Waller, the Fastnet Rock eight-year-old mare was honoured for her achievements through the season at the 2024-25 Australian Racehorse of the Year Awards at The Star in Brisbane on Aug 31.
Via Sistina captured an amazing haul of seven Group 1 wins in the 2024-25 season, including the Group 1 Cox Plate (2,040m) by an astonishing eight lengths in record time at Moonee Valley on Oct 26, 2024, and the Group 1 Queen Elizabeth Stakes (2,000m) at Randwick on April 12.
The Yulong Investments-owned mare was a clear winner when she polled 202 votes from 204 to land Racehorse of the Year honours from Bella Nipotina and dual Oaks winner Treasurethe Moment, who garnered 75 and 43 votes respectively.
Along with her announcement as the Australian Champion Racehorse of the Year, Via Sistina also bagged the Champion Middle Distance Horse award, collecting 203 votes to comfortably defeat Mr Brightside (79) and Antino (58).
