Audiences can listen to six personal stories of people affected by the 1947 Partition of India at Train To Pakistan, a play by HuM Theatre.

Telling personal stories amid chaos in the world

These oral histories provide context for the play, which is adapted from Khushwant Singh's 1956 novel of the same name. The production is part of the Esplanade's Kalaa Utsavam - Indian Festival of Arts 2024 and will be on from Nov 21 to 24.

One notable interviewee is Singaporean diplomat and bestselling author Kishore Mahbubani, whose family was displaced during the partition.

HuM Theatre co-founder and the show's director Daisy Irani interviewed people she knew about their experiences.

A common sentiment emerged regardless of religious or ethnolinguistic affiliation: the desire for younger generations to hear and understand what it was like to live through the partition and its after effects.
