Society • Collective action needed to counter youth radicalisation

We agree with Mr Irwan Jamil that we must equip our young to recognise and remain vigilant against harmful online content, including extremist ideologies (Radicalisation at such a young age a warning bell, Sep 12).

Schools seek to help students develop critical skills from a young age so that they can discern the reliability of information they are exposed to and be vigilant against harmful content.

Through Character and Citizenship Education, we help students to develop empathy and respect for others, recognise risks in the digital space, and use the internet safely and responsibly. Students learn about the negative impact of extreme ideas, prejudice and stereotypes in societies through Social Studies and History lessons in secondary schools.
