|May 29, 2023
The Wildlife Range Soreng, Barsey Rhododendron Sanctuary, under the West Wildlife Division, in Sikkim last night trapped a leopard that has been blamed for eating at least 21 goats, half a dozen cows and calves and several dogs and cats in the past two months.
-
According to foresters, they had been receiving several complaints from residents of different villages in Soreng District regarding raiding of crops in fields, killing of cattle, and loss of dogs and cats in the recent past.
"Such complaints of lifting of cattle and pets by a wild animal were received from Upper Timburbong in the last few weeks. Acting upon the complaints, the staff of the Soreng Wildlife Range installed trap cameras at various locations to ascertain the identity of the cattle-lifter," a forest official said.
