An alumnus of Harvard Business School, he has been serving the family business - Himadri Speciality Chemicals Limited, one of the leading completely integrated speciality carbon companies of the world, as the Executive Director.
Nearly six years ago, he had floated Motovolt Mobility Pvt Ltd with the aim to develop affordable e-mobility solutions that will revolutionise the way India moves, improving the quality of living, creating the ideal green future and ensuring safety with smartness - and all of this, with the optimum use of technology and design.
Besides, they had undertaken a project in Sundarban for conservation of the forest land. As many as 20,000 saplings had been planted by Motovolt and going forward they plan to plant one sapling for every cycle sold. More recently, the company took part in CESL STREE, which refers to the "Sustainable Transport for Rural Entrepreneurs through Electric Bicycles" initiative, a project by Convergence Energy Services Limited (CESL). The pilot, an empowering initiative, was launched by CESL in collaboration with the Ministry of Rural Development. Motovolt was selected to supply 1,800 cargo e-cycles under this programme to Women's Self-Help Groups (SHG) across multiple regions.
Speaking to The Statesman exclusively, Tushar Choudhary, Executive Director of HSCL and Founder of Motovolt Mobility, shares his plans and the company's growth trajectory and more importantly, outlines their commitment and plans to build a greener, a more inclusive mobility future.
Excerpts:
Q: How has been the Motovolt journey so far?
A: It has been an insightful and purposeful journey. When we started in 2019, we observed a clear gap in the Indian mobility landscape. At one end, there were basic bicycles priced around Rs 5,000, and at the other, entry-level scooters costing Rs 75,000 or more. A large segment of the population, earning at par or under the Rs 25,000 to Rs 30,000 category, had no viable mobility option, and this is the segment we chose to serve.
