New fuelling points at Chitpur and Ranaghat boost Sealdah suburban train services

Aiming to enhance operational efficiency by reducing costs, the Sealdah Division of the Eastern Railway has introduced a measure of decentralising the fuelling process for diesel locomotives.
The division has launched two new fuelling points at Chitpur and Ranaghat, which are anticipated to increase fuel efficiency and ease traffic congestion on busy railway routes.
In the existing setup, locomotives operating in and around Chitpur and Ranaghat were required to travel to Beliaghata Shed for fuelling. Taking fuel from the existing centralised fuelling centre at the Beliaghata Shed, however, according to railway sources, would often result in unnecessary travel time, crew costs, and increased congestion on tracks.
