District Legal Services Authority reaches out to red-light areas

As part of AIDS Day Week, a special awareness programme and picnic were recently organised for sex workers in the Sheoraphuli red-light area through a joint initiative of the Hooghly District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) and the NGO Sankalp.
The programme was attended by Manali Samanta, secretary of Hooghly DLSA, who outlined in detail the various legal rights, government benefits and support schemes available to sex workers. She stated that DLSA Hooghly would extend all necessary support to sex workers and their children, including educational assistance and help with any legal issues.
