DD Lapang, four-time Meghalaya chief minister passes away at 91

Dr Donwa Dethwelson (D.D.) Lapang, one of Meghalaya's tallest political figures and a four-time chief minister, passed away on Friday night, 12 September, at Bethany Hospital, Shillong. He was 91.
Dr. Lapang's journey from humble beginnings as a road labourer in Ri-Bhoi district to becoming a long-serving legislator and chief minister epitomised resilience, humility, and unwavering dedication to public service.
Born on 10 April 1934, the former chief minister began his professional career as a Sub-Inspector of schools before entering politics in 1972 as an independent candidate.
