CBI Raids Kolkata Deputy Mayor Atin Ghosh's Shyambazar Residence

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), probing the brutal rape and murder of a woman post-graduate trainee (PGT) at the state-run R.G. Kar Medical College & Hospital, on Friday raided the Shyambazar house of the Kolkata deputy mayor and Trinamul Congress MLA Atin Ghosh in connection with his alleged involvement in the financial scam linked to the crime.

The raid comes hardly six days after the central investigating agency conducted search operations at the Sinthi residence of another ruling party legislator cum chairman of the West Bengal Health Recruitment Board (WBHRB), Dr Sudipto Roy. Both the raids were led by the same CBI officer.

A team from the anti-corruption cell of the CBI, accompanied by central security force jawans, reached the deputy mayor's flat on the fourth floor of a multi-storied building at Shyambazar's Phoriapukur around 2.15. They left around 5 p.m. Mr Ghosh was at home and the CBI sleuths interviewed him for about two and a half hours, seeking to know about his role in the meetings of the Rogi Kalyan Samiti (RKS) of R.G. Kar Medical College & Hospital. The MLA from Cossipore-Belgachhia Assembly constituency, and a veteran councilor of the KMC, was also a member of the RKS, headed by Dr Roy.
