TMC MP exposes discrepancy in Centre's Murshidabad hospital data

Trinamul Congress MP Ritabrata Banerjee on Thursday exposed how the central government had fudged numbers pertaining to medical staff at a central government hospital in Murshidabad.

The ministry of labour and employment informed Parliament today that five medical officers have been appointed at Tarapur beedi hospital. However, this contradicts the Parliamentary Standing Committee report on labour, textiles & skill development, tabled on 28 March, which states that only three medical officers are in place against the sanctioned six posts.

"Over half of the beedi workers in the country are in West Bengal. Of this, one-fourth is in Murshidabad district. Central government has a 65-bed hospital in Tarapur for the beedi workers. This hospital is in a dilapidated condition and the same was raised in a standing committee. I had raised an unstarred question today seeking details on the hospital. However, it was shocking to note that the details in the Standing Committee report are in contrast to the information given today. We don't know what to believe," said MP Ritabrata Banerjee.
