Soma and Smarajit met during their first year of college—a time of new beginnings and endless possibilities. Their connection was instant, effortless. They often recalled that day as the moment everything changed, when what started as a simple introduction turned into a lifelong journey of love.

They tied the knot on 23 February 2000, just after graduating. Being financially unstable, their decision to get married got very little support from their families. The early days of their marriage were marked by struggles and sacrifices. Yet, what they lacked in wealth, they made up for in love, trust, and unwavering mutual understanding, strengthening their bond through every hardship. "Not for a single moment did I think of leaving him. Our love only deepened during the hard days—it was what held us together," Soma recalled.

Eventually, Smarajit secured a job in the tourism industry, which required him to stay abroad for long stretches, often more than six months at a time. The distance was difficult, but they remained emotionally connected through constant communication and unwavering support.
