Once a dominant force in Assam politics, the Congress ruled the state uninterrupted for 15 years under the leadership of Tarun Gogoi, Gaurav's father.

Back then, it held a solid organisational network, broad support across communities, and a seasoned leadership that could withstand political turbulence.

But much has changed since then.

The 2016 assembly election marked the beginning of a steep decline.
