A day after the Assam cabinet approved tabling of the Tewary Commission's report, in the upcoming November session of the Assam Legislative Assembly, Leader of the Opposition Debabrata Saikia (photo) termed the move as “politically motivated”.

- UNITED NEWS OF INDIA

He said that while the victims and even those involved in the Nellie massacre have buried their past, there is no reason to open an old wound.

“The people of Nellie have accepted what has happened inthe past. Itis said that time is the best healer, and most people have already forgotten about it. Post 1983, there had been no communal tension in Nellie. So Idonot understand why the government plans to table the report after so many years,” said Saikia while talking to this correspondent.

Saikia said that the Hindu-Muslim divide is the most favourite subject of the Assam Chief Minister and the ruling party. “Probably the Chief Minister is trying to take forward his agenda of dividing the Hindus and Muslims once again, by using the Tewary Commission report,” he said.
