PIL in SC seeks suspension of Air India's Boeing fleet over safety concerns

In the aftermath of the tragic crash of Air India's Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner on the Ahmedabad-London route that claimed 270 lives, including 241 on board including crew members and 29 on the ground, a public interest petition (PIL) has been filed in the Supreme Court seeking immediate suspension of operations of all Boeing aircraft operated by Air India until a comprehensive safety audit is completed.
The PIL, filed by advocate Ajay Bansal, calls for immediate steps to ensure passenger safety and statutory compliance under the Aircraft Act, 1934 and Aircraft Rules, 1937. The petitioner has also sought the public disclosure of safety audit findings and penal action against those found negligent.
The June 12 crash, which has sent shockwaves across the country and the aviation sector, forms the backdrop of the petition. Bansal contends that the fatal mishap has cast serious doubts over the airworthiness and observance of maintenance protocols of Air India's Boeing fleet.
