BJP MP Aparajita Sarangi on Thursday alleged that student activists affiliated with the BJD and Congress at FM College were responsible for mentally harassing Soumyashree Bisi through derogatory social media posts.

Referring to a police complaint filed by Soumyashree's brother, Sarangi claimed the harassment drove the 20-year-old to self-immolate.

Accusing both the BJD and Congress of shedding "crocodile tears," Sarangi said they lacked the moral right to politicize the issue. "People of Odisha are aware of the countless such incidents during the 24-year rule of Naveen Patnaik where no action was taken," she remarked, adding that both parties were attempting to create unrest and stay politically relevant.
