IN A startling revelation, a new report from the Australian Human Rights Commission has unveiled that racism is not just an isolated issue but rather a widespread and systemic problem within universities across Australia.

This comprehensive assessment, based on a survey involving over 76 000 students and staff from 42 universities, indicates that the prevalence of racial discrimination profoundly affects the educational environment and the well-being of those involved.
Commissioned by the federal government in May 2024, this report aims to examine the troubling realities of antisemitism, Islamophobia, and general racism within the academic landscape. The findings are both alarming and illuminating, as they highlight the insidious nature of racial intolerance that many students and staff endure.
