Disabled residents deserve reliable public transport

THE City of Cape Town’s decision to limit the Dial-a-Ride service, only to reverse it after urgent court action, is more than poor planning. It exposes how easily the needs of disabled residents are pushed aside until public outrage or a court order forces attention.

For many, the Dial-a-Ride is the only public transport available. People who cannot simply board a taxi or bus rely on it to get to work, school, hospitals, and places of worship.
