Vale have what it takes to spring surprises on third-tier return...

PORT Vale are back in League One for the 2025/26 season, and the mood around Vale Park is one of cautious optimism.
Darren Moore's side now face the challenge of reestablishing themselves in the third tier.
With a blend of new signings, a bold retro kit launch, and a competitive fixture list, the Valiants are gearing up for a season that could define their trajectory for the next few seasons.
The Valiants' immediate return to the third tier has instilled a sense of purpose and ambition. Moore, with his experience in the Championship and League One playoffs with Sheffield Wednesday, is determined to ensure Port Vale competes rather than merely survives in League One.
However, the step up in competition, squad integration, and maintaining consistency will present significant challenges.
Our prospects for the 2025/26 season hinge on consolidating our position in League One, with for me, a realistic aim of mid-table stability. Moore's defensive philosophy, evidenced by 18 clean sheets in League Two last season, provides a solid foundation.
However, the club faces stern competition from relegated Championship sides like Plymouth, Cardiff and Luton Town, all eager to return to the second tier.
Moore's experience and tactical acumen will be crucial, but chief executive Matt Hancock has tempered expectations, emphasis ing survival over immediate promotion aspirations.
