The Teardrop explodes!

ROB FIDDAMAN this week chats to The Crystal Teardrop about their influences from the 60s and beyond, and working with acclaimed White Stripes producer Liam Watson

We are all inspired by the Paisley Underground scene from the early 80s which included bands like The Bangles, The Pandoras and Rain Parade and the more recent psych scene from the States with bands like The Brian Jonestown Massacre, Black Angels and The Lemon Twigs.

Ultimately, we aim to draw on our inspirations both past and present to create a sound that is all our own.

Who writes the songs?Leon and I are the main songwriters in the band although everyone contributes to develop the material.

Tell us about some of the gigs you've played so far this year. We've had a blast so far this year! We've performed twice already in Spain at the Sant Antoni Pop Festival in Valencia in January and at Wild Weekend Festival, Mallorca in April as well as some fantastic gigs in the UK including London's Le Beat Bespoke Festival. Right now we are in the middle of our UK and EU album tour. We loved playing at The Underground in Hanley at the beginning of May - it was great to see so many familiar faces - now we are ready to complete the UK tour up in Scotland before heading over to France and Belgium!
