Plan for new solar farm the size of 143 football pitches
The Sentinel
|February 27, 2026
Energy site will span 23 individual fields
A HUGE solar farm covering the size of 143 football pitches could be created if planners from two authorities agree.
The proposal would have the potential to power 15,400 homes a year and have been submitted to two councils. The scheme is set to be located in fields south of Saverley Green, near Blythe Bridge, northeast of Hilderstone and west of Upper Leigh near Tean.
The solar farm will be constructed on 253 acres of farmand and spans across 23 individual fields with some crossing district boundaries.
This means permission for the solar farm will be needed from both Staffordshire Moorlands District Council and East Staffordshire Borough Council.
