New data reveals rise in number of cops injured on duty
NEW figures have revealed a 'concerning' rise in the number of police officers in Staffordshire injured while on duty.
Data obtained by Accident at Work Claim UK through Freedom of Information requests shows that the figure is now the highest it has been in three years.
Between 2022 and 2024, a total of 1,367 Staffordshire police officer injuries were recorded.
The leading cause of injury while on duty is assault, accounting for 878 cases (59 per cent) since 2022.
Injuries while detaining someone were the second most common, resulting in 138 incidents. Other injury causes included traffic collisions and being hit by a moving object.
