Moorcroft workers launch petition to try and save historic firm as deadline to find a buyer looms ever closer

- Jonathan Sutton

AXED pottery workers are campaigning to save Moorcroft and the rest of the Stoke-on-Trent ceramics industry.

Fifty-seven potters were made redundant last month when the Burslem firm announced its closure with 'immediate effect'.

The company - which blamed rising bills and the cost of living crisis for the closure - appointed liquidators Moore Recovery to try and find a buyer.

The liquidators and auctioneer John Pye & Sons remain hopeful of landing a buyer with the deadline for offers at 5pm on Wednesday, June 4.

Now workers have launched a petition as part of their campaign and almost 1,500 people have signed it.

Louise Edwards, who has worked for Moorcroft for 21 years, said: "It's just completely blown us out of the water, we don't know what we're doing, which way to turn.
