A RECKLESS father-of-four has avoided jail after taking police on a chase at 'breakneck' speed.

- Sentinel Reporter

Daniel Langford hit 70mph in a 30mph zone and failed to stop after overtaking a police car.

North Staffordshire Justice Centre heard that the 34-year-old flouted the rules of the road and risked the safety of others - after receiving a call from his ex-partner that the family dogs were fighting. Langford raced down Leek Road on September 17 in an 'ill-advised' rescue attempt.

Prosecutor Emma Thompson said: "In the early hours of the morning, armed officers on Leek Road, Stoke-on-Trent, were travelling down the road when a vehicle overtook them at great speed. They flashed their lights blue and followed. The defendant continued to drive. He hit speeds of 70mph and contravened a red light. He passed through Milton, before heading towards Baddeley Green and Norton.
