Appeal court rules his original sentence was too lenient
A BULLY who strangled his partner on holiday in Spain has been jailed after his suspended sentence was deemed too lenient.
Philip Humphreys' original sentence has been quashed and replaced with two years and four months in prison. The case was referred to the Court of Appeal by the Attorney General, Lord Hermer KC, under the Unduly Lenient Sentence scheme.
Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court heard the 39-year-old met his victim online in April 2022 and they quickly moved in together.
But Humphreys soon became controlling and coercive.
