Alongside the punk scene, the UK music charts saw Eurovision winners Abba notch up three number ones in 1976 with Mamma Mia, Dancing Queen and Fernando, while Sir Elton John and Kiki Dee were enjoying chart success with Don’t Go Breaking My Heart.
The movie blockbusters of the year saw Robert De Niro asking “You talkin’ to me? as Travis Bickle in Taxi Driver and Sylvester Stallone beating the odds as struggling boxer Rocky Balboa in Rocky.
