From Industry to Ideology: Dr. Tapan Chand on Modi's 11 years and Odisha’s double-engine growth
The Political and Business Daily
|June 09, 2025
IN an exclusive interview, Dr. Tapan Chand, former CMD of NALCO and BJP State Spokesperson, reflects on 11 years of Modi-led government at the Centre and one year of Odisha’s double-engine sarkar.
-

He shares why he joined politics, key achievements of the government, and his vision for development and reform.
Q. You are a top industry professional. Why did you join the BJP?
A: I see the BJP as the largest platform, and Narendra Modi as the tallest leader in the world working towards development and growth. Having worked in the industry for decades on similar objectives, I felt it was appropriate to join this significant platform to further contribute to the growth and development of both the State and the Nation.
Q. Modi’s government is completing 11 years and Majhi’s government one year. How would you precisely describe their achievements?
A: Hon’ble Prime Minister Modi Ji’s 11 years in office have been marked by Seva (service), Sushasan (good governance), and Gareeb Kalyan (welfare of the poor). Meanwhile, Hon'ble Chief Minister Majhi Ji’s first year has been a year of Sankalp Palan — fulfilling the commitments made under “Modi’s Guarantee” to the people of Odisha.
Q. Previous governments also introduced many welfare schemes and programs. What is the distinct difference in Modi’s programs?
A: I see three major differences. First, Modi Ji delivers Seva with Samman (respect) and Sushasan. He has shown respect to farmers by calling them Annadata, women as Shakti, youth as the growth engine of the nation, and citizens as Nagarik Devo Bhava (citizen is divine).
