The Philippine National Police (PNP) says it has been effective in its anti-criminality campaign as it touted that crimes nationwide have decreased by nearly eight percent.

President Marcos witnessed the five-minute crime response capabilities of the police force yesterday, with a personal demonstration from PNP chief Gen. Nicolas Torre III.

Torre said crime incidents from August 2024 to June 2025 went down to 177,735 from 192,677 during the same period the previous year, a decline of 7.75 percent.

"This significant decline clearly reflects the effectiveness of our intensified anti-criminality operations, especially our increased police presence across the country," Torre said during the 124th Police Service anniversary at Camp Crame yesterday.

Torre lauded President Marcos, who was the guest of honor and speaker at the event, for his unwavering support for the police force.

The PNP chief touted the five-minute response policy as one of the factors that contributed to the improvement of peace and order in the country.

Under the policy, police officers are required to respond to calls on the 911 emergency hotline within five minutes in Metro Manila and other urban centers.

Torre said the PNP is now a vital lifeline in emergencies through its network of police stations and field units following the implementation of the five-minute response initiative.
