ICC appoints medical experts to assess Duterte
The Philippine Star
|October 19, 2025
Pretrial judges of the International Criminal Court (ICC) have appointed three medical experts to assess the fitness to stand trial of former president Rodrigo Duterte.
In a Sept. 24 ruling made public on Friday, the ICC Pre-Trial Chamber I directed experts in forensic psychiatry, neuropsychology and geriatric and behavioral neurology to conduct a medical assessment on the former president.
Specifically, the panel of experts was tasked to determine "whether and, if so, at what level Mr. Duterte suffers from any medical condition which might have an effect on his ability to follow and take part in the ongoing pretrial proceedings, including the confirmation of charges hearings."
The panel was also tasked to assess whether any special measures or adjustments are recommended to address any of Duterte's medical conditions.
